The Joy of AKA Trio

Updated: Jan 3, 2021

I saw AKA Trio for the first time earlier this year at King's Place in London. Everyone in the audience was uplifted not only by the gorgeous music, but also by the clear bond of friendship between Seckou Keita (kora), Antonio Forcione (guitar) and Adriano Adewale (percussion).

Since that concert I've lost count of the number of times I've listened to their very aptly named album "Joy".

So when I heard they were going on tour in the UK this month, I couldn't wait to see them again. I made it along to their concert at the Ropetackle Centre in Shoreham-by-Sea on 15 November and it felt just as beautiful as the last one. It was even more special as I got to spend time with my friend Ann, who really loved hearing kora for the first time and watching the musical connection, affection and fun that this super-talented trio shared with one another and the audience.

A big thank you to Ebou Touray of African Night Fever for organising this fantastic gig. And there are nine more dates on their tour. Catch them if you can - you'll be totally inspired!
